Name: James Burkle Hometown: Hoboken, NJ Family background: I grew up in Point Pleasant, NJ. It was quite pleasant (sans summers when the town gets invaded). Neither of my parents play an instrument, but my father brought me up on classic rock and my mother used to blast songs from the 70's and 80's in the car wherever we went. Birthday/sign: May 28th, Gemini Musical influences: Wow ummm. Dan McLoughlin and Brian Lawler over at Garden Street Music have taught me alot as far as music theory goes. Led Zeppelin and Red Hot Chili Peppers are probably my biggest influences (both bands have incredible rythm sections). Add to that bands like The Who, Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Hendrix, The Beatles, Nirvana, Jet, Muse, The Police, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and countless others, and you have me. Favorite record(s)/why: Red Hot Chili Peppers "By The Way", really a turning point in their music. John really comes into his own as a guitar god on that album, Andy always keeps it interesting with his lyrics, Flea's basslines are never boring, and Chad is just awesome. Alice in Chains "Unplugged", its so personal and fresh since all the songs are reworked acoustically and its one of their last performances with Staley in the band. Reel Big Fish "Turn the Radio off" is so much fun to listen to. With all the horns going and the rediculous themes of the songs, it makes me happy. Career aspirations: To not work 9-5. Good habits: I practice everyday. Bad habits: Im really bad with laundry. It just seems to pile up in my hamper until I cant see the hamper anymore. Recent job(s): Sales engineer. Worst job: Ice cream scooper in hell. Favorite hangouts/why: Beta, all of my friends are always there, and my dad's boat, where I've spent countless hours fishing off the Jersey coast. Don't hate on Jersey or we're gonna throw down. What's so special about the band? We all have different lifestyles/professions/musical influences/outlooks on life which makes for a very interesting combo. What does being in Glacier Garden mean to you? Its an incredible rush to write music and be on stage with the guys. Theres nothing like feeling the whole house shake when you hit that first note. Its like jumping out of a plane.. minus the plane.. and the falling... so ok its not like jumping out of a plane but you get the picture. Three things you'd take with you to a deserted island: (1)A surfboard, (2)an acoustic guitar, and (3)Catherine Bell Three words you'd use to describe yourself: (1)Broke (2)as (3)hell. Three words your close friends would use to describe you: (1)Loyal, (2)stubborn, and (3)Irish (maybe 2 and 3 are synonyms?) Something about yourself not many people know: My left eye is half brown half blue. Nickname(s)/who calls you this? Burkle, basically everyone calls me this, and Jimmy, my family and close friends. |
